Review of My Master Series Photography Workshop in Phoenix AZ

As many of you know, I’m started teaching photography workshops a few years ago, and have really found a love with education. While many of my followers are familiar with my work at Fstoppers, LensRentals Blog, PhotoFocus, PhotoTuts+, Retouching Academy and more, not everyone knows of my work as an education in the photography field as well. I’ve been teaching photography workshops for a few years now, and my latest, the Master Series workshop, has been a huge success so far, with many more locations and dates to be announced soon. But for now, let’s talk about the most recent one in Phoenix, AZ.

WHAT IS THE MASTER SERIES WORKSHOP?

The Master Series Photography workshop is my attempt to make the most comprehensive photography workshop available to help jump start photographers careers. The workshop is 2 days, and 15 hours in length total, with hours of additional material available following the workshop. It’s designed to give you everything you need to know to increase your photography skills, both on the technical side, and on the business side. The actual photography workshop, is broken into 2 days, and 4 parts total.

DAY 1

LIGHTING INTENSIVE

The very first part of the Master Series Workshop is the extensive lighting training. During this portion, I go through and discuss lighting principles and how to use them to create amazing cinematic images in any environment. These core values are discussed in a way to make it easy to understand, allowing students to build off the practices, and use these tools to create images that reflect their own style.

ON LOCATION TRAINING

After the core values are established, we then go on location, and work with live models to create amazing images. With lighting, filters and even camera systems supplied for the workshop, we’re able to take full control of the scene, and create images unique and reflect the styles of the students. I also am there to help coach, train and help out as students are able to experiment to create the images that want to make.

DAY 2

COMPREHENSIVE MARKETING STRATEGIES

Perhaps one of my biggest skill sets is my marketing and business background. Prior to photography, I was working on the business side of things, and working to build relationships. From there, I started my business, and built a marketing strategy to grow my business, and tweaked it based on my results. In this lecture, I discuss those principles with you, helping you grow your business in any market.

HIGH END RETOUCHING

Using techniques developed and discovered over the last 8 years as a professional photographer, I go over processing techniques to help you develop your final images. Using Lightroom, Capture One, Photoshop and more, this portion helps take the raw image, and process it into something exceptional using techniques used by some of the best photographers and retouchers in the industry.

So as you can see, this workshop series is incredibly extensive, showing photographers how to shoot, light, retouch and market. For months, I’ve been developing this photography workshop, working to make it the best tool for a photographer in any market. Through the development, I’ve gained a lot of interest from other photographers, and sponsors, allowing me to make the class even better.

REVIEW OF PHOENIX AZ WORKSHOP

The Phoenix location for the Master Series Photography Workshop was a huge success. With nearly full capacity, we had students fly in from all over the United States to attend. We were able to use a really cool and unique location to shoot, and the students blew me away with the work they were able to produce for day one. Alongside the amazing images produced at the day 1 portion of the photography workshops, Jimmy Beech and Andy Foord were able to produce a pretty cool behind the scenes video, with the help of LensRentals.

SPECIAL THANKS

PHASE ONE

Special thanks to Phase One for helping put together these workshops, supporting me in my ambitious ideas and events, providing gear to these workshops, and giving away product to the attendees. Your hard work on these workshops show, and your support makes these things go by so smoothly.

LENSRENTALS.COM

When working on these workshops outside of my hometown, acquiring gear for them can be incredibly difficult to do. Fortunately, the largest rental house in the world, LensRentals, saw the education I was providing, and offered to help get gear to these great locations. Without their help, I’m not sure how any of this would be feasible.

TREVOR DAYLEY

Studio space for this workshop was provided by Trevor Dayley. Trevor is an amazing wedding photographer in Phoenix Arizona, and a good friend of mine for a number of years. Through his help, we were able to work out of his studio. Special thanks also to Tether Tools, who supplied us with tables for the event.

PROFOTO

A very special thanks to Profoto for supplying the best lighting gear available to photographers for these workshops. Through their support, both the students and I are able to take advantage of the best lights, modifiers, and tools to create amazing images.

ALIEN SKIN SOFTWARE

Among the many supporters also comes Alien Skin Software. They’re able to provide Alien Skin Exposure to the students of my workshop, one of my absolute favorite plug ins for Photoshop, Lightroom and as a standalone. Through their support, we’re able to speed up workflow, and teach students valuable principles to retouching.

CLARICE CORMIER

For the workshop, we ended up only having a single model, because of a last minute cancellation. Fortunately though, the model we had was a total badass, and none other than Clarice Cormier. Clarice was able to work with each photographer, and give a massive amount of expressions to help each photographer create amazing images.

JIMMY BEECH & ANDY FOORD

For this Phoenix Workshop, my friends Jimmy Beech and Andy Foord were able to come to Phoenix to take Behind The Scenes video of the entire two day event. They were then able to take that footage, and create short videos to promote upcoming photography workshops. Thank you so much for your hard work through the entire two day event.

MEGAPIXELS DIGITAL

For the Phoenix Workshop, MegaPixels Digital was there to work as the Phase One rep and provide support for Capture One, Phase One, and other general shooting principles. Brian Muntz attended the workshop, and was able to help students learn, and assist through the two day workshop.

THE STUDENTS

Without the students, these workshops obviously wouldn’t be possible. A very special thanks to all of those who attended the workshop, and were there to not only learn, but to help others and make the photography community even stronger than before. Your eagerness to learn is what keeps this whole community so great.
