Editorial Photography in Albuquerque of Model Sachiko Leilani

Often, when digging through my photography blog, you’ll find headshot photography in Albuquerque and other cities I have the opportunity to shoot sessions in. However, I shoot a whole lot more than just headshots of local actors, and will hopefully shoot even more editorial photography and commercial photography in the coming months.

When I first moved to Albuquerque, a question I was asked more than anything else was “Why Albuquerque?”. I think many of the people who live here, have an yearning for something different than what has been presented to them. I was the same way with Michigan. I’ve seen enough grassy fields lakesides to last me a lifetime, which is why I fell in love with Albuquerque, and decided to make it my home base for my photography business.

I fell in love with the desert. I fell in love with the bleakness. I fell in love with the bright sunlight, and I fell in love with the forever expanding horizons. So when I was asked to test out the new light by Phottix, I decided there was no better way to test it than by using the bright sunlight and forever expanding horizons of Albuquerque, right?

This shoot took place in the petroglyphs national monument just outside of Albuquerque. What it is for those who have never visited my beautiful city, is a series of carvings into volcanic rock by the Ancestral Pueblo people who settled in Albuquerque centuries ago. The park itself is 17 miles long, and is an incredible piece of cultural significance to the area. We decided to shoot in the outskirts of this area, because it had the beautiful bleakness of New Mexico, and with plenty of space away from the modern world.

Sachiko (Sachi) is a local model here in Albuquerque. I’ve met her a few times before this photoshoot in Albuquerque, and have really wanted to work with her for a while, just didn’t find the time. We were finally able to put together a pretty quick shoot together, and with the help of my makeup artist, Kata Baron, we set forth to create some cool photographs.
